Happy Pi Day

p = 3.14

I wish I had some fresh pie to share with you but I'll have to settle for this one I made a while ago.

I've been practising my pastry skills. After more than 50 years of baking, I'm finally getting (thanks to Smitten Kitchen)the hang of pastry - I know, I'm a slow learner. The cherry pie I made more recently looked much better than this one but we were in so much of a hurry to dig in I forgot to take a photo.

Anyway, let's celebrate Pi and Pie - both awesome concepts and even related!

Happy Pi Day!

Happy p Day!!

In honour of this fabulous day, let's celebrate the joy and synchronicity of Math while we enjoy some delicious pie.

I recently discovered Lauren Ko on Instagram. She's a pie baker specializing in fabulous pie crusts. Precise and perfect. Here are some photos I borrowed from her website: Loko Kitchen.

Here's one of my pathetic attempts at a lattice-topped cherry pie:

Pi Day Update

That Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart from Smitten Kitchen was sure tempting, but I opted for a healthier main course dish instead. Fritatta.

Eggs with red onion, mushrooms, asparagus, spinach, green onions and sliced cherry tomatoes and feta cheese on top, baked in the oven. Pretty tasty! Served with leftover roasted baby potatoes and a cabbage, kale and Brussels sprouts salad with diced onion, celery, apple, pomegranate seeds, sunflower seeds and dried cranberries with an Asian dressing. Yum!

Happy Pi Day!

It's March 14: 3.14 tomorrow. Pi Day! I'm going to schedule this post a day early in case you want time to prepare for tomorrow ;)

Run to your kitchen and make a pie to celebrate. Here's one from Deb Perelman at Smitten Kitchen that looks pretty awesome to me: Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart.

Find her recipe here. Comment 41 has a recipe for a homemade shortbread tart crust that looks pretty easy.

Oh, and by the way, don't forget to also celebrate square root day in three weeks: 4.4.16. This is the time to get out those recipes for squares (brownies anyone?) and go for it.

Happy Pi Day

3.14

As you likely remember, there are an infinite number of digits to the right of the decimal point of Pi. In this composition the first 140 of them have been used in sequence.

Another fact that came to my attention is that Pi Day 2015 is special. At 9:26:54 both am and pm.

Because Pi = 3.1415926536.....

Do you want to enjoy a special piece of pie this year? Here's Smitten Kitchen's Pi Day offering: Black Bottom Oatmeal Pie (If only I could make pie crust. I'm the world's worst pie crust maker!)

Deb Perelman's yummy concoction of oatmeal and chocolate. Like a butter tart or pecan pie, only better. Click on Black Bottom Oatmeal Pie for the recipe. Follow the Smitten Kitchen blog for more yummy recipes.
