I've been reusing plastic containers - cottage cheese, yogourt, etc. to store food for fridge or freezer - for years, but now I'm wondering how safe they are in light of more information on the different types of plastic that are used.
This article was in the Toronto Star on the weekend and gives some useful information about the different types of plastic and how safe they are. A good rule of thumb, if you can't be bothered reading the whole article, is not to mix plastic and heat. Don't put plastic containers in the dishwasher if there is a heated drying cycle and don't put them in the microwave to warm up food. Also, let food cool before storing in a plastic container.
