Breaking News....
.....in the UK. Starting tomorrow, August 31, when you shop at Tesco, the popular UK supermarket, you may be able to find and buy a giant avocado, approximately 7 inches long and weighing 3 lbs. Only four S. African trees so far are producing these "avozillas", perfect for making that giant batch of guacamole. It will be a bargain, at only £3 for British avocado lovers.

Thelma and Louise
Maybe you read about this turtle in the newspaper.....
This is (These are?) Thelma and Louise, a two-headed Texas Cooter Turtle, born June 18 at the San Antonio Zoo.
Two-headed turtles are not uncommon - just a result of an incomplete separation of twin embryos. Thelma and Louise have attracted a lot of interest and have their own Facebook Page
.
Visitors to the Facebook Page will find updates on the girls' condition and also information and alerts about other turtles around the world, such as this rescue
of this confused loggerhead sea turtle in Hilton Head.
Then there's this story from July 29 that
I found about a man in China who tried to smuggle his pet turtle disguised as a hamburger packed into a KFC bag onto an airplane. Apparently he couldn't bear to leave his beloved pet behind. He had to though.

Carry Your Baguette in Style
There’s something special about purchasing a fresh baguette while it’s still crispy and warm. The CYAN’s Baguette Bag guarantees your trip home from the bakery will never be the same. Made especially for the baguette fans, the Baguette Bag protects the fluffy loaf while keeping your hands free. Place your just purchased bread into this stylish accessory and sling it over your shoulder – now you can bike or walk and carry other groceries in your hands without damaging the baguette. And if you’re empty-handed, you can always keep your hands free while walking instead of worrying about protecting the loaf.
Order your Baguette Bag here.

The Art of Lego
A year and a half ago I showed you a Lego Supreme Court of Canada
.
This time it's sculptures by Nathan Sawaya
, a New York artist. Some of his works are 3-dimensional and life size:
at Design Indaba, Cape Town, S. Africa
Others are one-dimensional:
Watermelon Mosaic
All are made with standard Lego bricks. Sawaya buys bricks and also puts to use bricks that people no longer want.
Infinity
His works are of an enormous variety and are exhibited in shows and galleries around the world.
T. Rex
Sawaya's website
is great fun to browse through. His comments accompany each sculpture. For example he says about the heart at the top:
Have a heart. I built this heart shape using recycled LEGO bricks that folks have donated. Rather than let their old bricks become trash, I was happy to take them off their hands and transform them into artwork. Keep your heart open, one brick at a time.
