Forest Xylophone in Japan Plays Bach

This video is apparently neither computer-generated nor edited in order to produce the effect of the music. The engineering musical feat was created to introduce a new smartphone in Japan, one that has a wooden body, sourced from sustainable Japanese wood. Music is Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.

ChopValue

Do you ever think about the waste of plastic utensils for take-out food? Think again about the number of chopsticks around the world that get used once, then tossed. This Canadian company has found a way to recycle used chopsticks. (Now if only they could come up with a solution for all those plastic knives and forks we find in with our take-out food, even when we haven't asked for them)

Changes

Dear E-Mail Subscribers:

FYI: I've just received the following message from Blogger, the platform on which this blog is run.

FollowByEmail widget (Feedburner) is going away

You are receiving this information because your blog uses the FollowByEmail widget (Feedburner). Recently, the Feedburner team released a system update announcement that the email subscription service will be discontinued in July 2021.

After July 2021, your feed will still continue to work, but the automated emails to your subscription service will no longer be supported.

This means that if you have been receiving my blog posts in your e-mail inbox, you will no longer get them after July 2021. I was offered the opportunity to fix this by giving them my contact list but I declined.

In order to see what's new on this blog, starting in August 2021, you will need to visit Some Favourite Things on your browser.

I hope you will!

Stringfever

My friend Hilda sent me this amusing video a while ago as part of an email thread talking about what street performers would cause us to stop in our tracks to listen even though we might be on our way somewhere.

We both agreed this group would definitely fit the bill. This is their 2017 video of four musicians playing Ravel's Bolero.

The UK-based group is called Stringfever and Bolero, which they originally put together in 2006 has become their signature piece. Since then they have put out other creative videos and have travelled the world pre-Covid putting on shows and workshops. They do their own arranging and play electric instruments. These days their concerts and workshops are on-line. See more on their Stringfever YouTube Channel.
