Walking Offa's Dyke Path: Brompton Crossing to Buttington Bridge

This video ended a bit abruptly so here are a few extra photos.

When I was just above Buttington Bridge I decided to stop for a rest and a late lunch and while I was relaxing there, a Dutch couple, Jenneke and Erik who had been at last night's B and B near Brompton Crossing emerged over the stile on their way to the same pickup point as me since we were again staying in the same B and B. Happily they agreed to wait down there for me before calling our host so he could make just one trip instead of two. This was the beginning of a wonderful friendship over the next couple of days.

Our accommodation for the night was at Tynllwyn Farm, an amazing place with rooms inside the main house as well as a couple of cottages. I scored a cottage all to myself. 2 floors, with one bedroom and a bathroom along with sitting/dining room and kitchen on the lower level and another sitting area with 3 more bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. The brown door on the bottom with the boots drying out beside it was mine.

There was even a patio overlooking the view down into Welshpool.

Tynllwyn Farm would have been a very comfortable place to stay for a much longer time. The hosts, David and Jane were very welcoming and served us a delicious dinner.

This is who was there for dinner besides me:

  • 2 Canadian women, Justine and Lynne, walking the North to South only as far as Welshpool and headed tomorrow to explore and hike in Snowdonia
  • Jenneke and Erik, from the Netherlands
  • a British couple,  Susan and Sam, also walking South to North
  • 3 German women who I had already encountered on the Path, also going the same way
  • an older man (not a hiker) from Australia,  although originally from Wales, who was over to attend his son's funeral. This man's wife had died just 3 weeks previously so he was in fragile condition, although determined to keep that stiff British upper lip. I think (once we had all expressed our sorrow to him) he was diverted by our high spirits and conviviality.
For me, this was one of the best evenings - so many laughs, many of them at the expense of the 2 Canadian women, one from Collingwood, the other from Woodstock, former public health nurses, who were hilarious!!
